What does an Herbalist take with them when they are traveling to stay healthy?
My Sleep Blend! I do NOT sleep well when I travel! Thankfully, I’ve created a blend that really helps! I’ll still wake in the middle of the night, but from experience, I know now. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I have a glass of a bit of water in it with my tincture right next to the bed. I drink it, do some 5-7-8 breathing, and can fall back asleep now. It used to take me an hour to fall back asleep when traveling!!!
My ‘keep healthy’ blend is a must-have for me. It’s a versatile mix that I tailor to my needs. It usually includes Echinacea and Ginger for general health. These will help boost my immune system and help if I get sick. If I’m heading to a place with digestive issues or parasites, I add Black Walnut. For potential allergies, I mix in Nettle and Reishi. And for an extra immune boost, I throw in some astragalus. It’s a comprehensive blend that covers all bases!
This Herbalist Also Travels With…
I often get constipated when I travel due to random schedules and different foods. To combat this, I add some Turkey Rhubarb to the above “keep healthy” blend to keep my bowels moving. Smooth Move by Traditional Medicinal is excellent if you want a tea option.
I typically take my regular supplement routine with me but always add extra Magnesium (to keep my bowels moving and help me sleep better at night) and Vitamin C to help my bowels keep moving and to help boost my immune system.
I tend to get tight muscles in my neck and shoulder, so I always bring some topical muscle relief oil and an internal anti-inflammatory blend just in case I get tense while on vacation.
I also bring my daily tea IF I am not flying or am checking a bag. I have no desire to explain a bag of “weeds” in my carry-on! I will also bring a bag of Chamomile with ginger in it. Chamomile and ginger just help so much… with an upset stomach, stress, anxiety, motion sickness, sore muscles, and headache. Whatever! Chamomile is always for the win!
On my last trip, we were doing a lot of driving, and I do NOT care for my husband’s driving, especially in new big cities, which we were doing a lot of, so I brought a “Chill the freak out” blend. My husband said he appreciated it because it worked. 😊 My blend contained Blue Vervain, Skullcap, and Kava.
Here are some other herbs that might suit your needs.
Lemon Balm is often noted for those with “preflight jitters.”
Holy Basil is a great-tasting herb in tea form that can help manage stress and blood sugar with the extra sugar often consumed on trips.
Peppermint as a digestive anti-nausea tea. I prefer ginger, but peppermint is an excellent alternative if you don’t like ginger.
Here is what I carry all my tincture bottles and oil rollers in. It holds 9-tall, thin ½ oz dropper bottles. It keeps them safe, and I have never broken a bottle. https://a.co/d/5zewU6i
