Basic Sleep Support Tincture – Freebie

Herbal sleep tincture recipe with passionflower, skullcap, valerian, and hops for natural sleep support

For a girl who used to say, “Sleep is overrated,” have I come a long way!

Now I see it differently! It’s foundational for health!

Do you prioritize your sleep?

If you get less than 7 hours of sleep more than 3 times a week, then you are likely suffering symptoms of “sleep debt.”

I love this article by Paul Bergner that dives deeper into this topic. Link to article

I’ve shared before about my favorite sleep teas (and there’s a free recipe card you can grab here), but today I want to share something simple and effective tincture for those who don’t care for teas.

You can also learn more about my personal favorite sleep support herbs I use for myself in my post here.

Here is the recipe for my tincture blend

  • Passionflower 1 part
  • Skullcap 1 part
  • Valerian ½ part
  • Hops ½ part

Why These Herbs Work.

  • Many people struggle to sleep because their mind won’t shut off.
    • Passionflower + Skullcap help calm mental chatter
  • Restlessness or that “wired but tired” feeling:
    • Skullcap + Hops help settle the nervous system
  • Difficulty falling asleep:
    • Valerian supports deeper sleep onset
  • Balancing energetics:
    • Valerian can be warming: Hops cools and balances
    • Hops can be overly cooling: Valerian balances it out
  • Customize Based on Your Needs
    • Anxiety-driven insomnia: add Lavender or Kava
    • Digestive-related sleep issues: add Catnip
    • Light sleepers: Lemon Balm is magical
    • Pain keeping you awake: California Poppy

A supplement I’ve seen helpful in practice (recommended by Dr. Hargis):
CatecholaCalm (Designs for Health)
